PLANET X

Geomorphic 2023
/ Tables

The story behind

Planet X Table is a reflection around human visual perception of Nature and Cosmos, a play with the process by which the physical energy received by sense organs forms the basis of perceptual experience.

Caltech researchers have found mathematical evidence suggesting there may be a “Planet X” deep in the solar system. This hypothetical planet orbits our Sun in a highly elongated orbit far beyond Pluto. The object could have a mass about 10 times that of Earth and orbit about 20 times farther from the Sun on average than Neptune. It may take between 10,000 and 20,000 Earth years to make one full orbit around the Sun.

The first glance in fact struggles to recognize the materials that constitute it, they seem to come from another planet, and joined in zero gravity.
In reality, the tabletop is made of two Burled Poplar wood planks with organic live edges and a completely unusual woodgrain like a planetary atmosphere. They are joined and frozen in a transparent resin like a cosmic ice. Three transparent pillars pierce and support the round top in a seemingly antigravity mode that plays with optical prism effects, hiding the fastening system in what appears to be incomprehensible extraclear pillars full of reflected light.  The tabletop seems frozen and suspended in an infinite cosmic moment.
The Burled Poplar is the wood in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner, but it is absolutely natural, however unusual.
The human eye knows it when it sees it in the dashboards of luxury cars, but generally does not know the full external appearance of this rare wood with its amazing live edges.
It’s sublimely unique. The swirls, twirls, and eyes dancing in the bark all create a unique, highly figured grain that no human could dream of designing, but it is in effect a real wood of our planet.
The wood has been thoroughly impregnated with a special colored oil process that brings out these extraordinary holographic grain, making it appear even more extraterrestrial,  transcending the ordinary perception.
