Chiron Table

The story behind

In astronomy Chiron was initially identified as an asteroid, but is actually one of the most massive known periodic comets in the solar system, orbiting around Uranus, the green planet.

The Chiron Table is a reflection around human visual perception, a play with the process by which the physical energy received by sense organs forms the basis of perceptual experience.

The first glance in fact struggles to recognize the materials that constitute it, they seem to come from another universe, and joined in zero gravity.

The tabletop is made of two Burled Poplar wood planks with live edges, encased and joined in a transparent resin, two organic shapes that extend without touching, supported by three irregular transparent pillars that pierce and support them in an apparently inexplicable way. The Burled Poplar is the wood in which the grain has grown in a deformed manner, but it is absolutely natural, however unusual. The human eye knows it when it sees it in the dashboards of luxury cars, but generally does not know the full external appearance of this rare wood with its amazing live edges.
It’s anything but average. The swirls, twirls, and eyes dancing in the bark all create a unique, highly figured grain that no human could dream of designing, but it is in effect a real wood of our planet.

The wood has been thoroughly impregnated with a special verdigris and oil process that brings out these extraordinary holographic grain, making it appear even more extraterrestrial. So, it is not a space table, it is a terrestrial table which also represents the earthly Eden in which we can still live. An impulse to study and learn about our planet, transcending the ordinary perception.
